  3. Ultimate Goal • Create a useful new teaching tool for Dubspot • Meets current and future needs • Student re-training in Mac OSX environment • Adaptable to Moodle CMS • Engages learners in 3-way dialogue • Learner-to-learner • Learner-to-instructor • Learner-to-content

Course accomplishments • Creation of four pre-training lessons • Lessons 1-3: Mac OSX Basics • Lesson 4: Quickstart lesson for Windows users • Each lesson contains: • 1-2 enhanced video screenshot tutorials • 1 Blackboard based quiz • 1 reading or video assignment & response question • 1 discussion board question

  6. Initial plan & final product: Differences • Initial plan: use Camtasia Studio (Windows) • Record screen capture • Record narration • Edit • Create assessments, surveys • Table of contents • Clickable interactive hotspots within tutorials

Initial plan & final product: Differences • Final project: tools used • Screenflow for Mac : Screen capture and editing • Can’t create quizzes • Can’t create hotspots or Flash interactivity • Logic 8.0: recording and importing narration • Blackboard: Built-in quizzes • Table of contents: Presented as within tutorial • Not fixed/interactive like within Camtasia • No clickable hotspots within tutorial • Quizzes: built-in to Blackboard • Used Blackboard’s image hotspot function for matching/ID questions

  8. Rationale for Course Design • Simulation in authentic learning context: • Multimedia video tutorials • Hotspot images within quizzes • Discussion boards: multiple layers of interaction in authentic learning context • Learner-to-learner • Learner-to-instructor • Learner-to-content

  13. Lessons learned • Start early • Be Persistent • Have multiple SW tools available to do job • Spend time learning CMS

  14. Lessons learned • Start early • Many false starts • First two clients dropped out • Leave time for technical problems • Couldn’t access 6358 Elluminate sessions • Software needed to create tutorials crashed

  15. Lessons learned • Be Persistent • Almost ready to give up and drop the course • Found Dubspot after two failed attempts • Now have paid employment with Dubspot!

  16. Lessons learned • Have multiple SW tools available to do job • Early March: Lost Windows capability on my Mac • No time to reformat machine • Time spent researching, learning more limited Mac SW

  17. Lessons learned • Spend time learning CMS • Locate existing resources • Initially overlooked quiz features of Blackboard • Confusion with HTML and formatting of text
