  2. Overview of IEEE-USA’s 2006 PACE & Technology Policy Activities Dr. Russell Lefevre Vice President Technology Policy Activities IEEE-USA _________________

  3. What is the PACE Network? • PACE = Professional Activities Committees for Engineers • The PACE Network is a grassroots network of IEEE volunteers and committees organized at the section and chapter level in the United States with support from their respective IEEE Regions and IEEE-USA. • The goal of the PACE Network is to promote the professional interests of IEEE's U.S. members as well as provide a mechanism for communication of members' views on their professional needs. _________________

  4. Resources for the PACE Network • IEEE-USA Annual Meeting • Section PACE Chairs are invited to attend the meeting for networking opportunities and to gain and learn valuable skills and resources • 2006 Annual Meeting was held in St. Louis, MO on 3-5 March, 2006. Presentations from the meeting can be found at: www.ieeeusa.org/calendar/conferences/2006workshop/program.asp • 2007 Annual Meeting will be held 31 August – 3 September. Location and details will be announced soon. _________________

  5. Resources for the PACE Network • PACE Web Site: • IEEE-USA provides a web site designed specifically for the PACE Network: • www.ieeeusa.org/volunteers/pace • The PACE Web Site contains PACE funding request forms, ideas for PACE projects, sample projects, PACE Regional Contact information, and step by step instructions of how to hold a Member Professional Awareness Conference (M-PAC), a Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) and a Student Professional Awareness Venture (S-PAV). _________________

  6. SamplePACE Network Programs & Activities • Member Professional Awareness Conference (M-PAC) • M-PACs are professional awareness conferences that consist of non-technical topics such as career strategy, career makeover, leadership and communication skills, ethics, project management, etc. • Step by step instructions can be found on the PACE web site at: • www.ieeeusa.org/volunteers/pace/mpac.asp _________________

  7. Sample PACE Network Programs & Activities • EWeek Future City Competition • The mission of the National Engineers Week Future City Competitionis to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future. • Details on how to participate on the Future City Competition can be found at: • www.futurecity.org _________________

  8. Sample PACE Network Programs & Activities • Example of Future City Competition: • Region 5 North Texas 2006 Future City Competition Judging Middle School Design • Details of this particular competition can be found at at: • http://www.dfwfuturecity.org/ _________________

  9. How Do I get funding forPACE Programs & Activities? • IEEE-USA offers funding of PACE programs through your Region • Funding forms can be found on the PACE Web Site at: • http://www.ieeeusa.org/volunteers/pace/funding.asp • After you complete the funding form, contact your Regional PACE Coordinator for approval. _________________
