Why Japan ??? • Economic Giant • The 3rd largest GDP • The 2nd largest contribution to the United Nations • The 4thlargest country within the world trade context • Unique history and culture • The 1st emperor ascend to the throne in B.C. 600. • About 20 temples and shrines in Kyoto and Nara as the World Heritage • Always fight with adversities such as earthquake • Your Future • You may be working in Japan or in Japanese firms, or most likely, working with Japanese firms so whatever you learn about Japan will serve for your future career.

Companies to visit ~ Japanese distinctive business ~ • JR Central • Known as “Shinkansen” - Bullet Train • High quality - "clean", "eco-friendly", "safety", and "punctual" - transportation • More than $40 billion revenue and 40,000 employees • Uniqlo (Fast retailing) • The world 4th fashion industry • Excellent operation system (SPA) • High quality and fashion-leader • Strong marketing strategy • Operating 1,000 stores in NY, Shanghai, Taipei, London, Moscow, Japan...

Criteria for grade Pre-Assignment: • Readings: Japan economic environment, culture, and company background • 1 or 2 meetings - Introduction about Japan (people and culture) - Company introduction Deliverable: • 1 page report about thoughts and insights after the trip Grading: Pass/Fail DS, HP or PS

  12. Day 1 - Tokyo Mid-Semester Module starts. All participants will meet in Tokyo. Day 2 - Tokyo We go for a guided tour to the Tokyo Sky Tree and other must-see places such as the Emperor palace and the diet building . Tokyo Sky Tree The diet building Emperor Palace

  13. Day 3 & 4- Tokyo Company Visit, two for each day Golden Temple Day 5 & 6 - Kyoto A guided tour and optional tours (Kyoto, Hiroshima, Koya-san, Osaka) Koya-san Itsukushima Temple Maiko

  14. Day 7 - Nagoya Company visit to TOYOTA LEXUS factory PRIUS Shinkansen

  15. Day 8 - Tokyo Company Visit, Alumni Dinner Day 9 & 10 - Tokyo Free time in Tokyo, Wrap-up, and Good-bye!

Need to Know Tour policy: • Need to attend all of our schedule • No refund after you pay full amount • Maximum # of participants - 35 people Spouse: • Take your significant others, but don’t take many boy or girl friends!! Vegetarian: • Almost all of Japanese restaurants can’t serve vegetarian foods
