  8. SteelPan Came from the “Tambu Bamboo” band from Trinidad.

  9. SOCA Soca was used to express courtships and sexual interest .

  10. Static Sound System Over 40 sound systems positioned around the Carnival area provide the perfect setting for DJs to show their stuff. From Latin jazz, reggae and garage to hip hop and drum ‘n’ bass.

  11. Planning Saturday August 12pm – 9pm 30th National Panorama Championship The Carnival usually starts on Saturday with the steel band competition. Each band has between 40 and 75 musicians. They compete for the “National Champions of Steel”. The Championships takes place 4pm-9pm Sunday August 6am – 10am J'ouvert Steelbands participate in a procession to mark the official opening of the Notting Hill Carnival. Revellers daub paint and mud on themselves and that tradition has now been taken up here. It is seen as a way of driving away demons. Once washed off it reflects baptism . Processions start at the junction of Ladbroke Grove and Kensal Road. 10am – 7pm Notting Hill Carnival Children's day parade Europe's biggest celebration of music, movement and masquerade London Notting Hill Carnival Ltd actively encourages participation – both performers and spectators – of young people. Monday 25th August 10am – 7pm Notting Hill Carnival Europe's biggest celebration of music, movement and masquerade.
