  4. At our heart we are motivated by a mission to create a better world through education.

  5. We promote intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity, but as an essential part of life in the 21st century.

  6. We aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

  7. We encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences matter and can be right.

  8. Current IB Numbers • Graduating Seniors = 21 • Rising Seniors = 19 • Rising Juniors = 42 • Rising Sophomores = 34 • Rising Freshmen = 78

  9. IB Announcements • IB Val/Sal and NonIB Val/Sal • Graduates will receive Honors rankings accordingly: • Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors) • Above a 4.0 weighted cumulative average • Magna Cum Laude (with high honors) • 3.75 – 3.9999 • Cum Laude (with honors) • 3.50 – 3.7499

  10. IB Laptops • The rising IB Seniors will be allowed to keep their laptops over the summer. You must pay the $64 insurance fee before the end of school to do this. • All others will turn their laptops in and receive them at the start of next school year. This will prevent many problems

  11. More IB Announcements • Daphne High is continuing in the A+ College Ready Grant • Went from 60 AP tests given 2012 to 348 in 2013 to 538 in 2014 • IB Juniors next year will again take the following classes: • IB English 11 AP English 11 • IB Biology/Physics 11 AP Biology/Physics • IB Stats 11 AP Stats

  13. Graduate Announcements • Graduation – IB Val/Sal and Honors designations • Graduation will be May 19th • IB Tests begin May 5th • Last IB Exams will be May 23rd • Students accepted to outstanding Universities

  14. Rising Senior News • Work on CAS hours • Ronald McDonald House, Thomas Hospital, Bay Area Food Bank, many more • Work on Extended Essay • Summer reading – Black Boy by Richard Wright Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain • Ms. Mahone’s Summer IB Trip

Rising Junior News • CAS Hours begin this summer • See Ms. Hunter for opportunities • Email at hhunter@bcbe.org • CAS Handbook is on DHS IB Moodle page • Same opportunities as Seniors, should coordinate in a specific area • Do your summer reading – Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata Madam Bovary by Gustave Flaubert.

  16. Rising Sophomores • Summer reading list - The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare - Anthem by Ayn Rand - Letters from the Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King, Jr. • Choice for elective is very important- Determines 11th grade IB 6th subject

Rising Freshmen • Welcome to the Programme • Ms. Mahone’s History summer packet – online on the DHS IB Moodle page • Go to learn.bcbe.org • Read the book that all of DHS is reading • Summer writing camp June 2nd – 5th • Another week of writing camp June 23-26 • Freshmen Orientation – Aug. 14th

  18. Registration Packets Students from Spanish Fort Middle, Bay Minette Middle, Christ the King, and Bayside Academy all need to get a registration packet before you leave

  23. IB FEES Rising Seniors - please pay your $500 fee Rising Juniors – please pay your $500 fee before August 18, 2014 If a scholarship is needed from SEEDS, please get in touch with me ASAP Students that don’t have fees paid will have schedule changed
