Rosalie was turned into a vampire when she was dying in the streets of New York in 1933. in Rosalie found Emmett in the woods being mauled by a bear and saved him. He reminded her of someone she once knew and fell in loved him instantly. Carlisle changed him into a vampire for her. Emmett Cullen Alice Cullen Rosalie Hale Jasper Hale Carlisle Cullen Esme Cullen Edward Cullen Bella Swan Carlisle and Esme are married. They are the parental figures of the family as Carlisle started the “feed on animals only” diet and Esme is very loving and fits a mother figure quite well. Carlisle turned Esme into a vampire after she was fatally wounded in an attempt to kill herself in grief of her son’s death. Edward and Bella are in love, almost inseparable. At first eye contact they knew. Edward was turned into a vampire by Carlisle in the early 1900s (to save his life).

  7. Character Map Edward and the rest of the Cullen clan want James dead because he wants to kill Bella. James wants to kill Bella because of how protective Edward is of her. Bella is the daughter of Charlie, they both worry about each other but Charlie knows almost nothing about Bella’s new life Charlie doesn’t know a lot about Edward but he does respect Carlisle. He doesn’t mind Edward but that’s just because he hasn’t hurt Bella’s feelings yet. Charlie Swan Charlie likes Jacob because he’s known him for a long time. Charlie is good friends with Jacob’s father- Billy Black. Edward Cullen Bella Swan James and Victoria are lovers, Laurent is a bit of a third wheel. He’s mostly just there to hunt in a pack James Victoria Jacob is very interested in Bella, Bella only sees him as a friend. Jacob doesn’t like Edward because he’s a vampire. Jacob’s people don’t take kindly to vampires. Jacob Black Laurent

  8. Plot The main plot of twilight is quite simple, a vampire and a human want each other. Each of the characteristics the other has drives them to want each other more. Edward finds Bella almost impossible to resist compared to other humans. Bella finds Edward is so perfect in every way. Then some other vampires come along and see Edward and Bella playing baseball with their family. James, a vampire very good at tracking, senses a human (Bella). Edward shows signs of being very protective of her and James sees this as a challenging hunt. His lust to kill Bella is great and cannot be reasoned with. Edward and the Cullen family take Bella to what they think is safety and then try and hunt down James. James finds Bella first and toys with her, for a while then Edward intervenes. Edward and James fight until James gets an upper hand and in that time frame he bites Bella. Edward, infuriated, attacks James again. The rest of the Cullen family arrives and help bring a quick end to James. James’ venom is in Bella’s blood and starts to transform her. Edward then has to try to suck the venom out of Bella’s arm without taking too much blood. He goes into a frenzy when he starts sucking her blood and almost bleeds her to death. Bella’s wounds heal over some time and all is good is the town of Forks (that’s where they live!). What if Bella was turned into a vampire from James’ bite? Edward and Bella would have lived happily ever after, given that Edward’s loss of bloodlust for her doesn’t change their relationship.

  9. Conflict The major conflict in “Twilight” is how James wants to kill Bella. Edward reads James’ mind and knows that James will allow himself to be talked out of killing Bella. He knows he will not stop until Bella is dead. Trying to talk James out of this act is out of the question, since he obviously can’t be reasoned with… the temptation is too strong. The reason James wants to kill Bella is because Bella’s blood smells very appetizing to vampires (much better than the average human), also because Edward was so protective of her when James was around her. This made a very interesting hunt (or game) to James. Also temptation for vampires is much harder to resist than humans. One of the only solutions was to kill James, which was the how the Cullens solved this dilemma; they ripped James into several pieces and burned him. Another solution would be to turn Bella into a vampire so that James’ bloodlust for her would vanish. However, the idea of turning Bella into a vampire disgusts Edward. It is against his morals, but murdering James is not.

  10. Theme Edwards and Bella’s love is so passionate they continue to see each other despite their love being forbidden. At the end of the book Edward has to make the decision of trying to suck James’ venom out of Bella or allowing Bella to become a vampire. Edwards love stops him from killing Bella … barely. After he sucks out James venom he continues draining blood from Bella’s veins… almost killing her. Like I said earlier, temptations are harder to resist compared to humans… and the taste of blood sends them into a frenzy. In the book it is described as something that is very hard to stop. This combined with already overwhelming desire to eat her it would be almost impossible to pull off. However he does manage to pull it off because he loves Bella.

  11. Title Evaluation The title “Twilight” is a very vague title for the book. It does create the vibe of a dark, cloudy vampire-like atmosphere. However twilight is a time of the day that occurs right before the break of dawn. The end of twilight and the break of dawn is how most people separate their days. Twilight is seen as the end of a day… and at the same time a start of a new one. This can be related to Edwards experience in the book, from the day he meets Bella swan his day is changed forever, or better yet… a new life begins. The same can be said for Bella as well, some radical changes made in her life and how she sees it. The title is not perfect and the author even preaches this. She originally planned to call it “Forks” because that was the only thing she could think of.

  12. Film Version Edward Bella Charlie Robert Pattinson Kristen Stewart Jake Gyllenhaal Very good at making a dumbfounded, panicky look Bella’s role demands. Young and slender like Bella Swan. Average looking like Bella. Looks like a protective father. Looks like he could be a police officer. Has had experience playing more complex and emotional roles. Very good at contorting his face, Edward Cullen spends a lot of time fighting his very strong temptations. Young and very good at acting over emotional.

  13. Writing Style “His fingers were ice-cold, like he’d been holding them in a snowdrift before class. But that wasn’t why I jerked my hand away so quickly. When he touched me, it stung my hand as if an electric current had passed through us.” Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 2, p.45 The most obvious thing about Stephanie Meyers writing style is she is very descriptive, many critics say that she is over descriptive but they just haven’t sold as much books as she has. She makes a very good comparison between the temperature of the fingers and the snowdrift. Many people can relate to having their hand covered in snow or stuck in a snow bank. This makes it very easy to relate and interpret as to how cold the fingers are and what they are like to the touch. She also tries and lure the reader in by making them curious. She does this by stating that it wasn’t the true reason she pulled her hand away. This makes many people want to know the truth, or true reason she did it. Just the common curiosity of wanting to know something for the sake of knowing. Also she uses the word “Jerk” instead of “pull” which makes us think of a more intense and sudden movement. These more active verbs grabs a readers attention. Stephanie actually does little to none foreshadowing in her novel however, she just seems to rely on very vivid descriptions and romance.
