  1. Silent Rave: The Ultimate Aural Experience • Solution • SilentRave proposes a solution that automatically addresses various issues depending on which mode that user intends to be in without requiring the user to provide any input . • Solution 1 – Running Mode (Total Isolation): • The device automatically increases the sound when external audio levels increase. • Sound level is reduced when elevated noise is gone. • Good for safe but dynamically noisy areas • Solution 2 - Conversation Mode: • When sizeable level of human voice (20 Hz – 20 kHz) is detected, music volume is decreased and external audio boosted. • The user does not need to be aware of others or deliver any input to the device. • Good for scenarios when the user is expecting interruptions • Solution 3 – Ambient Mode: • Automatically mixes in level of external audio (microphone signal) with the user’s audio • Good when the user wants to remain aware of surroundings but still enjoy his audio • Headphones allow a user to enjoy music while keeping the sound from disrupting others in surrounding areas. However, typical headphones come with trade-offs. Some environments constantly change or the user may enter & exit various environments, altering the aural inputs that one is receiving. Depending on the environment that the user is in, he may want his microphones to react in different ways. • The device processes the external sound through a stereo enhancement algorithm to simulate natural stereo imaging. • It compresses and limits the external sound to prevent overloading and protect one’s ears (e.g. if someone yells into one of the microphones). • Finally, it equalizes the external sound to seem natural and comfortable through the headphones. Problem Life presents the user with various situations and consequently various problems to one’s ideal aural experience: Scenario 1: The user is running in an area where the sound is inconsistent. He may run by laughing children, barking dogs, or waterfalls. The user either must stop to adjust the music or continue running with a disrupted music experience. Scenario 2: The user is on an airplane, or walking with headphones. He wants to listen to music, but doesn’t want to accidentally ignore others who may approach him (an air hostess or friend on the sidewalk). Scenario 3: The user is running on the street where the sounds of the environment are important to his safety. While he wants to be able to listen to music, he needs to know when and from which direction a car honk or alarm may be coming from. SilentRave’s device can meet these changing needs!
