  1. T9 transformation • Repeatability test of experimental area tables (EDMS 1119840, Michael Lazzaroni) High Radiationto Materials WG3 – Experimental Area Ans Pardons– EN/MEF HiRadMat project Team Meeting 03/0/2011 Weekly WG3 meetings material: http://indico.cern.ch/categoryDisplay.py?categId=2616

  2. HiRadMat • January 2011: TBID dismounted • Dose rate inside collimator volume (1mx1mx1.2m) was measured (N. Conan): The 4 copper blocks: • Each bloc has “hottest surface” on the outside • Axis of bloc 2&3 is outside range of overhead crane • No remote handling foreseen (in 1993) Transformation of T9 Débit de dose télétector 12.01.11 40cm à l’extérieur des blocs : 20mSv/h 5 cm à l’extérieur des blocs : 60mSv/h 10-15 cm dans les blocs Cu: 430mSv/h Max obtenu (distance non estimée) : 1 Sv/h Ans Pardons EN/MEF

  3. HiRadMat • Axis of bloc 2&3 is outside range of overhead crane • Take 1&2 / 3&4 together • Use custom-made lifting beam • No remote handling foreseen • Use existing threaded holes (4 per block) • Handling plates must be installed on copper blocks • Hottest surface on the outside • Handling plates + extra shielding protect personnel when fixing plates • Blocs will be placed inside container in sarcophagus downstream TNC (40cm iron) Transformation of T9: downstream collimator Ans Pardons EN/MEF

  4. HiRadMat • Extensive tests on mock-up (S. Evrard) (carried out 02/02/2011, extensive report on EDMS1119840) Transformation of T9: downstream collimator Ans Pardons EN/MEF

  5. HiRadMat • Presentation in ALARA L3 committee of 17/1/2011 • Followed-up by “review” in the following week (M. Tavlet, P. Bonnal) • Extensive documentation (procedure, DIMR, risk analysis, ...) in EDMS for approval per phase Phases: • 0- Preparation area & tests • 1-Dismount and transport upsteram collimator & target • 2- move two upper copper blocs to downstream TNC • 3-move two lower copper blocs to downstream TNC and place all 4 blocks in containers inside sarcophagus • 4-5-6-7: Prepare area for receiving TED, install TED, close shielding Transformation of T9: ALARA approval Ans Pardons EN/MEF

  6. HiRadMat • Green light for phase 1 received 1/2/2011  roof block, target and collimator removed on 2/2/2011 Transformation of T9 Ans Pardons EN/MEF

  7. HiRadMat • Green light for phase 2 received 3/2/2011?  two upper copper blocks planned to be removed 3/2-5/2 (~18h of work) (situation on 5/2: shielding in place downstream from lower copper blocks) • Green light for phase 3?  two lower copper blocks removal & storage in closed sarcophagus (~20h of work) Then: phase 4 (~8h) – with last transport TNC TT61 Transformation of T9 Ans Pardons EN/MEF
