  1. 1 kg of feathers 1 kg of stone Which do you think would have the greater volume and mass? OR

  2. Objectives • The students should be able : • To conclude that density is one of the properties of matter • To analyze the effect of mass and volume to the density of a matter • To determine the density of a matter • To apply the concept of density in daily life

  3. DENSITY Density is defined as mass per unit volume. It is a measure of how tightly packed and how heavy the molecules are in an object. Density is the amount of matter within a certain volume.

  4. Proof that water and ice have different densities

  5. To find the Density Measured the volume of liquid Volume of water = 720 ml

  6. Measured the volume of stone

  7. Measured the mass of stone

  8. To find the density 1- Find the mass of the object 2- Find the volume of the object 3- Divide Density = Mass Volume

  9. Units for density g/cm3 or g/ml Formula: m = mass V= volume D = density m= D x V V = m / D D = m/ V

  10. To find density: • Find the mass of the object • Find the volume of the object • 3) Density = Mass : Volume Example: If the mass of an object is 35 g and it takes up 7 cm3 of space, calculate the density !

  11. To find density: • Find the mass of the object • Find the volume of the object • 3) Density = Mass : Volume Ex. If the mass of an object is 35 g and it takes up 7 cm3 of space, calculate the density ! Set up your density problems like this: Given: Mass = 35 g Volume = 7 cm3 Unknown: Density (g/ cm3) Formula: Density = Mass : Volume = 35 g : 7 cm3 = 5 g/cm3

  12. The density of matter is denoted with ρ. • The density is defined as the ratio of mass and volume • Equation of density is : Where : ρ = density ( kg/m3) m = mass ( kg ) V = volume (m3)

  13. The layer sequence based on its density

  14. Conclusions • The density is not influenced by the mass and volume of the matter • The same matters have the same density too. • Different matters have different density either • The density is defined as the ratio of mass and volume • Equation of density is :
