  1. Finding Print Articles Using the Online Catalog and Requesting Materials

  2. Here is an example of an article citation from the journal American Journal of Nursing Kennedy, M.S. (2009). Change happens. American Journal of Nursing, 109, 9-15. First we used A to Z to find out if this article is available full-text in the databases. (See the Using A to Z tutorial for instructions.)

  3. If the journal is not found in A-to-Z, or if the date you need is not found Journal not found in A to Z

  4. Search the online catalog for the journal Title Go to the library’s home page at www.fhsu.edu/library and click on Online Catalog

  5. Search for the Journal Title(not the article title) Select Journal Title American Journal of Nursing Search

  6. Click on the journal title, if found

  7. Check the library’s holdings against the date of your article We own this journal in both Microfilm and in print. We own microfilm issues only up to 1998 However, we have print issues up through Sept. 2009, which would include the article we are looking for.

  8. Write down the call number for the journal, and use it to locate the correct issue of the journal Call Number for this Journal is RT1.A13

  9. Issues dated 1994 – present are shelved in the Periodical Reading Room on the Main Floor Periodicals Area on Main Floor

  10. If you can’t find the article in A-to-Z or in Print, you can request it through Interlibrary loan Click Journal Articles Click Services

  11. Requests are usually free. If a free copy cannot be located, you will be notified prior to any charges. Complete the form and hit Submit at the bottom. Be sure to put your SCATCAT E-mail address, or you may not receive your article.

  12. Receiving Your Articles Usually the article will be e-mailed to you at your Scatcat e-mail address. The message will contain a password that will allow you to access the document. Occasionally, the article will be in print form, and you will need to stop by the Interlibrary Loan office, Room 112, at the library to pick it up. We will contact you when it arrives.
