Health Evangelism

Bruce R. Hyde, MD

President/Medical Director

Battle Creek Lifestyle Health Center

Lifestyle Evangelism Coordinator, NAD

The Battle Creek Lifestyle Health Center is a health evangelism initiative of the Michigan Conference of SDA. Though separately incorporated as a not-for-profit 501c3 organization, its board of directors clearly understands the mission for church linked evangelism. The Battle Creek Lifestyle Health Center is integrally linked with the Battle Creek Tabernacle Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Rx:Healthful Living is

the Healing Remedy

The Great Physician

Healthful living is the first step in the standards of care for medical practice.

Lifestyle Evangelism

Lifestyle Medicine is commonly thought to be Preventive Medicine, and this is very true. But Lifestyle Medicine is much, much more. Lifestyle Medicine is Healing Medicine.

Lifestyle Evangelism

The principles of prevention are the laws of health,

the rules for healing

and the hope for cure.

“When the men were come unto Him, they said John the Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? Or look we for another?

And in that same hour He cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind He gave sight.

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard;

How that the blind see, the lame walk, and the lepers are cleansed,

the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.”

Healing Works!

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Psalm 19:7

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • In all Christ’s work, MMW was united with gospel ministry.

  • SDA’s are to carry forward the MMW begun by Christ.

  • God seeks to pour out His goodness through MMW.

  • MMW is an instrument for reaping the gospel harvest.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • MMW is the compassion of Christ revealed.

  • MMW is the pioneer work of the gospel.

  • MMW is the gospel in practice.

  • MMW is the gospel in illustration.

Health Evangelism Works!

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • The attention of the churches should be called to MMW.

  • MMW is a part of every church’s work.

  • MMW cannot be separated from the gospel.

  • MMW is as a river of life for the irrigation of the church.

Thy testimonies are very sure. . .

Psalm 93:5

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Conference presidents should encourage MMW.

  • Conferences need to uphold MMW.

  • Conferences should appoint persons to supervise MMW.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Ministers should show decided interest in MMW.

  • Ministers should take decided and active part in MMW.

  • The ministry needs MMW to demonstrate the practical working of the gospel.

  • Pastors should instruct church members in MMW.

Medical Missionary Work Evangelizes

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Ministerial work will soon be limited to MMW.

  • Soon there will be no gospel work done in ministerial lines except in MMW.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Churches should engage in MMW.

  • Church members need to understand the importance of MMW.

  • Church members should take a decided and active part in MMW.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • The world’s standard of education is not essential for efficiency in MMW.

  • MMW will not cause SDA’s to be regarded as inferior in scientific medical knowledge.

  • The efficiency of MMW is in pointing people to Christ.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed. . .

1Peter 1:19

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • MMW is a high and holy calling.

  • The enemy works to counteract God’s plans for MMW.

  • God’s cause must be greatly helped and strengthened by MMW.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • MMW was united with Gospel ministry in all Christ’s work.

  • An inseparable union should exist between the gospel ministry and MMW.

    • Must be united as closely as the arm at the body.

    • No line to be drawn between the gospel ministry and MMW.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Do not separate MMW from church organization.

  • Never separate MMW from gospel ministry.

  • MMW cannot be separated from the gospel.

Medical Missionary Work (MMW)

  • Separated from the church, MMW will have evil results.

  • Separated from the gospel ministry, MMW will have evil results.

  • MMW disconnected from the church becomes a strange medley of disorganized atoms.

The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 19:10

“If I do not the works of My Father, believe me not. But if I do, though you believe me not,

believe the works; that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in Him.”

John 10:37, 38

Exodus 15:26

Jesus preached and we have churches.

Jesus taught and we have schools.

Jesus healed and we need lifestyle centers.

“There are many ways of practicing the healing art, but there is only one way that heaven approves.”

“People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. It is true that they sometimes afford present relief…The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs but in nature.

Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet the use of water, trust in divine power – these are the true remedies. Every person should have a knowledge of nature’s remedial agencies and how to apply them. Those who persevere in obedience to her laws will reap reward in health of body and health of mind.”
