  1. WHY DO WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING? The economy is failing us, with youth unemployment now over 27%, and some of our communities faring even worse—joblessness for 16-to-24-year-old black men is over 34 percent, which is more than three times the rate for the general U.S. population. Our education system is increasingly insufficient and expensive. and our challenges go far beyond education and jobs. Violence is rising in our communities. The climate and energy crises threaten our future. Skyrocketing health care costs and plummeting access to care hit our communities hardest.

  2. AND WHEN WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK…

  3. We are the first generation since the Great Depression to inherit an economic situation that is worse than the one our parents faced. WHAT WE’RE DEALING WITH

More than 30 million young adults between the ages of 19 and 34 (46.8 percent) went without healthcare at some point during 2007-2008 leaving them on the brink of catastrophic debt Disparities still remain-- 34 percent of African Americans and 52 percent of Hispanics ages 19 to 29 are uninsured, compared with 23 percent of whites in that age range 17% of full-time students aged 19-23 are uninsured, compared to 39% of non-students aged 19-23 who lack insurance WHAT WE’RE DEALING WITH

  5. College experience is the main predictor for wealth creation and economic prosperity outside of your demographic identity That being said- College graduates are burdened with an average of over $23,000 of debt ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER: WHAT WE’RE DEALING WITH

  6. WE CAN’T WAIT FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE FOR US- AS YOUTH WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING- NOW.

WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR To ensure that everyone gets their opportunity to achieve their American Dream—a secure job and a safe work environment, a living wage, safety on our streets, access to comprehensive and affordable healthcare, a quality education and an environmentally just world built and sustained with renewable energy. Because these are the rights of everyone regardless of gender, race or ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation, ability and immigration status. This is why we need to come together to demonstrate our collective power and our collective interest in taking action on the issues affecting our community-NOW.

ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER: WHAT WE’RE DOING We’re physically outreaching to our community using our relationships and grassroots tactics to not only get people on the bus to Washington, D.C., but to build a movement that people can believe in through the election and after. We’re building diverse community coalitions that represent what our neighbors and cities look like.

WHAT WE WILL DO… WE WILL-Reset the national political narrative and affect the national climate WE WILL- Win over large segments of the discontented populace WE WILL- Energize and mobilize our base constituencies WE WILL- Strengthen and highlight a strong constituency for bottom-up economics, public investments and fair taxation

TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WE WILL NEED TO… Strengthen the coordination of our groups Initiate and follow-through with organizing and mobilization to attract allies and impact public opinion Show our collective power through our numbers, vision and energy Voter education and GOTV for November elections Multi-dimensional, multi-media communications plan to complement all of the above activities

THIS ALL LEADS TO ONE POWERFUL EVENT: OUR MARCH ON WASHINGTON • Inspire and invigorate our base and allies • Participate in the rally with speakers, cultural performances, and celebrities between the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument • Send a message about the size and strength of our movement • Articulate a vision for a new economy that prioritizes people and provides a secure life and human rights for all.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU! • TIME, ENERGY, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS AND RESOURCES • - Endorse the campaign and lend your Organization’s name to the campaign • - Spread the word at conferences and community events by distributing materials • - Get to work on turnout now! • Reserve Buses • Plan Canvasses • Coordinate Ride-shares - Pull together local coalitions of progressives for One Nation Working Together • - Hold local media launch of your One Nation Working Together coalition

  13. ORGANIZATION TO-DO LIST • Fundraise • 2. Build Coalitions within the interfaith community, youth, students, business community, LGBT, civil rights and labor • 3. Fill buses or contact local unions to see if they can offer some seats for youth • 4. Materials and tools will be available to help you organize such as : Posters, Toolkits, Flyers, and Buttons • 6. Updates and coordination local work with the National Youth Director

Model Fundraising Appeal On Saturday October 2, 2010 tens of thousands of Americans will descend on Washington, DC for the One Nation Working TogetherMarch We want to send _____BUSLOADS OF _______to deliver our message to the nation. WILL YOU HELP US SEND ______PEOPLE TO DC?Each bus costs approximately $2,000 (including driver, food, tip, parking, etc) and will carry 50 people. HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO: Sponsorship: Donate yourself or ask a local business, church, foundation, school group or individual to sponsor a bus or team. $2,000 - Sponsor an entire busload. $400 - Sponsor an activist team of 10. $40 - Sponsor an individual marcher. Hold a Fundraiser: Host a house party, a concert, a bake sale, or take a collection at church. Get on the Bus: And each day from now through March, ask everyone you see: Will you join me on the bus ?
