Other opportunities to expand on providing Suboxone • DSHS will be working with HHSC to rollout a Substance Abuse Medicaid benefit package that will include Suboxone in the following services: • Ambulatory/Residential Detox • Medication Assisted Therapy ie, treating clients with suboxone in other levels of care • Office based dispensing • All DSHS funded Narcotic Treatment Programs will be required to offer Buprenorphine in FY11

  8. Motivational Interviewing • The MI trainings were conducted in phases. The series of MI trainings incorporated a training plan, coaching and ongoing training services necessary for practitioners to successfully incorporate MI into their routine mode of practice. • Each training session consisted of two days of training, three monthly taped sessions’ reviews and expert coaching feedback provided via a web-based coaching application and a one day follow up training or booster sessions to assess progress and provide advanced MI training.

  9. Motivational Interviewing • The first training was held in Austin, Texas on April 28, 2008. The training was designed to introduce supervisors and program administrators to MI and encourage their support of program staff that was to participate in the regional trainings. • Initially, six regional trainings were set up to take place over the course of one year; the training locations were: Houston, Austin, Midland/Odessa, Corpus Christi, Lubbock and El Paso. • Two more trainings were added the end of May, 2009, both trainings were held in Austin for providers unable to attend one of the first six trainings.

  10. Motivational Interviewing • In addition to the final MI sessions, DSHS worked with the Gulf Coast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Gulf Coast ATTC) in offering Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency (MIA STEP) to DSHS providers.
