  1. The 4th Quarter will be based on three key objectives and activities The Magazine Project will be the last stage in this amazing wring journey you have been on all year Writing – Final assessment will be to write, revise and present a narrative monologue. Reading – Three main elements of reading. Johnny Got His Gun – There will be three quizzes a mid-term and a final A/R Goals will be equal to 3rd quarter Analyze how a poem’s form or structure contribute to it’s meaning through our daily analysis of poetic form, structure, word choice and rhyming schemes. • Essential Questions: • How Does a speaker create and present effective oral text? • How do literary devices enhance a text?

  2. Reading • We will begin “Johnny Got His Gun” this week. Be prepared to discuss elements of mood, tone, characters and intended audience • A/R goals. Even though they are not yet set in the system, goals will be similar to 3rd quarter • JGHG and the poetry I select will all be designed to prepare you for the final assessment Our goal should be to finish this year STRONG to be prepared for 8th grade and High School challenges in Language Arts and literature

Writing • The month of April will be spent writing, revising and improving your final assessment which will be to write a narrative poem to develop real or imagined experiences and ensuring the demonstrating mastery of the following writing concepts • Establish a choice/consequence relationship • Clarify intended audience • Use narrative structure and plot elements like sequence, dialogue, details, characters, setting, description • Use poetic devices to enhance and support meaning, like metaphors, similes, imagery, symbols The final project will be presented in a monologue to the class during the first week in May

  4. The Magazine Project • In addition to the “regular” curriculum, we are moving into the design, layout and publication stages of the magazine. • Due this week, each of you needs to have THREE separate magazines for analysis, criticism and design ideas. • All writing needs be completed by Friday, April 6th. • Beginning April 9, we will spend three days in revision and editing. Please bring in ALL your writing, typed, double spaced It is important to remember that the magazine is an additional, graded project representing 1/3 of your grade for the 4th quarter
