  1. Prenatal Development By: Fatima Grajeda Human Growth and Development

  2. First Step is Fertilization • Fertilization is when the egg and the sperm unite and this process starts at ovulation.

  3. Stages of Prenatal Development • Germinal Stage: Two weeks after fertilization. Begins at conception and ends with implantation of the Zygote in to the wall of the Uterus.

  4. Embryonic Stage • Embryonic Stage: Begins at the end of implantation. Lasts about two weeks and most of the main organs start to develop.

  5. Fetal Stage • Fetal stage: Begins at the 3rd month and this is when the embryo is transforming and going through all the necessary changes it needs in order to be a fully developed human being.

  6. Sequences of Prenatal Development • Cephalocaudal: The head is much larger then the body. • Proximodistal: The control and movement of the body starts in the middle and moves outward. • Mass-to-specific: Reactions begin to appear and are localized.

  7. Pregnancy is a journey of two • Women who are pregnant are vulnerable and need the most attention from everyone, especially their partner. • When the father of the baby is present, the child inside the womb is able to recognize and feel comfortable around the voice of the father, making it easier for the child to feel loved and accepted.
