Satellite - Generalities • Good independence: The second more independent mean after radio. • Confidentiality: More confidential than radio and local means, it is still possible to be listened by local authorities. • Expensive: Satellite communications are generally expensive but the cost of the local landline need to be compared .

Satellite – ACF Particularities • ACF Paris purchase: Every single satellite phone needs to be purchased in Paris. • Warranty: 1 year warranty. • Service: All SIM cards have post-paid service for security reasons (no pre-paid card run out possible). • Effectiveness: All backup phones need to be checked in used once a month The kit of the sat phone should be complete, especially for the 12V and the 220V power adaptors.

BGAN Practical case 1/3 • Point the antenna • To S-SE direction and accept pointing The BGAN goes to “searching”, “registering” and “ready” steps. • To establish phone call • When the BGAN is “Ready”, to another BGAN. • Establish data exchange • Parameter the test@missions-acf.org mail box and prepare a mail • Connect the BGAN to the computer and launch the local interface on Internet explorer (192.168.0.1) • “Start BGAN connection”, wait for 10 sec and update the page until you get a “current connection” • Launch email exchange • “Close BGAN connection”

BGAN Practical case 2/3 • Check the consumption • On the local interface, write down the estimation of phone and data consumption • Admin unlocking of the BGAN • By default, almost no modification on the BGAN is allowed. In case of need, or to reset the voice counter, it is possible to unlock the admin settings. • In the “administration” part, enter “admin” and “1234” as password. • It is possible to modify this password and to reset it with the complicated “admin password reset code”

BGAN Practical case 3/3 • Update the firmware • The latest version is 3.00 • In “Properties”, “software information” or directly “Upload” , click on “Upload” and browse to the place where it is stored. • Edit a diagnostic report • When you want to generate a diagnostic report, from the Help desk window click “Generate report”. When the report is generated, you can save it to a txt file, winzipp it and enclose it when reporting an error.

Automatic position or do “Navigation”, “Current position”. • Automatic registering or “Network”, “Sat registration”. • Establish phone call • Always call an international phone number. • The phone number of the Thuraya is linked to the SIM Card.

The latest software release is the 6.7 Follow the doc ThurayaSO-2510UpgradeManualv1-1.pdf to update the Thuraya. • The update of the firmware must be done before trying to solve any problem occurring on the Thuraya.
