Three Zones Within… • Supra-Littoral Zone • covered by water during the highest high tides  • arid conditions • Mid-Littoral Zone • Increased submergence time • Home to many mussels • Pisasterochraceous. • Low-Littoral Zone • normally covered by water. • high concentration of nutrients • Home to many organisms Kathleen Fox

Organisms Adapt to Changes… • Moisture • Covered at high tide, exposed to air at low tide. • Water Movement • rough waves can dislodge or carry away poorly-adapted organisms (Barnacles) • Temperature • range from moderate water temperature to moderate/scorching or freezing air temps. • Salinity • Tide pools can become diluted or very salty Kathleen Fox
