  2. Objective of Study • Develop laboratory procedures to test theories of fluid characteristics on Mars • Simulate gully formation with morphologies similar to those observed on Mars • Compare morphometric results with data from MOC and MGS

  3. Procedure • Three different slopes • 10°, 20°, 30° • Four different flow rate at ml/min • 445, 705, 965, 1260 • Four runs at each flow rate at each slope

  14. REU 2008 Hypotheses to Test • Shorter apron length is found on steeper martian slopes • Apron length of martian gullies increases as flow increases • Largest gullies on Mars occur on shallowest slopes • Larger martian gullies have higher flow rates

  15. Conclusions • Simulations generating 3 gully parts • Effect of saturation not quantified but does exist • Changes in flow rate and slope have definite effects • gully total length • apron length • channel total length
