  2. Who we are and what we do • We are an agency of the Scottish Government with approximately 170 staff • We give financial support to all eligible students doing a course of higher education in the UK • We process approximately 150,000 applications each year www.saas.gov.uk

  3. Residence eligibility • Ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for the three years immediately before the first day of the academic year of the course (relevant date) and ordinarily resident in Scotland on the same date • If you are not a UK or other EU national, you must have ‘settled status’ in the UK as set out in the Immigration Act 1971 www.saas.gov.uk

  4. Course eligibility • Higher National Certificate (HNC) • Higher National Diploma (HND) • Degree • Nursing and Midwifery diplomas and degrees • PGDE • Some postgraduate diplomas www.saas.gov.uk

Tuition Fees • Study in Scotland – we will pay your fees each year if you are eligible • EU students studying in Scotland – we will pay your fees each year if you are eligible • Study elsewhere in UK – you will pay your own fees up to £9,000 each year or you can take out a student loan to pay all or some of them. The loan for fees is not based on household income. www.saas.gov.uk

  8. Young Students • Bursary & loan for living costs available to students aged under 25 at start of course • Dependant on household income • Do not have to repay bursary www.saas.gov.uk

  9. Payments • Paid Monthly • 1st instalment will be a double payment • SAAS pay bursary • Student Loans Company pay loan www.saas.gov.uk

  10. Repayment of the loan • Don’t start repaying until the April after you graduate or the April after the leaving course • Repay 9% of your annual income over £15,795 • Employer will take repayments from your salary • Interest is linked to inflation www.saas.gov.uk

  11. Repayment Examples • If you earn £20,000 you will repay 9% of your income over £15,795 each year (9% of £4,205) You’ll repay £31.54 each month from a monthly salary of around £1,300 • £30,000 you’ll repay £106.54 each month from a monthly salary of around £1,900 www.saas.gov.uk

  20. How and when to apply • Applications can be made from April each year • You should apply before 30 June to ensure your funding is in place at the start of your course • Apply online at www.saas.gov.uk • You must apply every year and you do not have to wait for exam results www.saas.gov.uk
