S2- Current events • The conflict in Syria is showing signs of expanding as the Syrian government has threatened to cross into Lebanon and attack rebel safe havens. • Russia and Iran are stepping up arms support to Al-Assad Regime. In response France and UK are beginning to discuss arming the rebels. Analysis: Conflict has no near end in sight and the conflict continues to widen in scope and bring more reprecussions

  15. Bn FTX PCI Mission: JMU Duke Bn conducts FTX PCI and FTX INFIL rehearsal from 0530 to 0700 on 21March2014 IOT verify that the battalion is ready for FTX operations. N Concept of the Operations: Phase 1: This phase begins with the cCSM and both 1SG’s arriving prior to first formation so cCSM can lay out his gear and make sure 1SG’s are to standard. When PSG’s and PL’s arrive, the 1SG’s will check them . Phase 2: This phase begins when all cadets arrive. First Formation will be conducted, and PSG’s will put their platoon in open ranks. Cadets will begin to lay out their gear to standard with guidance from PSG’s and PL’s. Note, SL’s will have gear laid out first so that squad members know where to line up off of Phase 3: This phase begins When cadets have all their gear laid out to standard in front of them. PSG’s and PL’s will be checking to make sure their platoon has the item that is being called out by the 1SG. All cadets that do not have gear will have their name recorded and given either a negative spot report or a supply hour. Phase 4: Begins with the end of the PCI . Cadets will then Pack up their gear and get back into their squads. After PCI we will begin issuing MRE’s. Each cadet that is going will get 6 MRE”s. Phase 5: Begins with the conclusion or issuing MRE’s. Cadets will get back into Final Formation and then go home. Alpha NO PARKING Bravo Coordinating Instructions: -Cadets will not use the back lot closest to Willow St, they will park in the main parking lot in front of the department. -S4 shop will be monitoring the issuing of MRE’s and will be excused from the main body PCI. Unless that MS4 missed the last PCI, then they have to find a replacement to issue MRE’s. OIC – cLTCBetourne NCOIC – cCSMFida Time Line: 0520 – 1SG’s and cCSM lay gear out to standard 0530 – SL’s have gear laid out then Cadets begin to lay out gear 0540 – Begin PCI 0625 – Pack up gear 0630 –Get issued MRE’s 0650 – Final Formation

  18. 27 MAR 2013 Recon Planning Process Basic Lab • TRAINING EVENT: Attack Planning Process • OIC: Fanning • NCOIC: Giordano • MISSION: Basic Lab Cadets and BCCs conduct Recon Planning Process classes in AO Memorial Hall/National Guard Armory from 1535-1730 on 27 MAR 2013. • Purpose: Familiarize Cadets and BCCs on basic Recon Planning Process, and execution as team members and squad leaders. • Key Tasks: • Initial TMK walk-through • Conduct check on learning via talk-through with TMK by cadet/BCC. • Conduct practical walk-through outside • Retrain if necessary • Conduct AAR • End state: Cadets and BCCs are trained to standard on Recon battle drill. • Resources: FM 3-21.8 • Number of Cadets Trained: ~ 84 2nd 1st 4th CLASSES 1PLT 2 PLT 5th 3rd

S3: TAC OIC • Highlights • Lab this week: Road to War Brief • 3’s still missing equipment at lab • Hoen: fleece cap, field jacket, whistle • McCue: fleece cap • Johnson: MS3 kit • Brown: did not show up to PCI, did not meet with me before hand • night rider shifts were given to MS3’s • 2nd PCI will take place 27 March at 0500 at Memorial for all MS3’s

Advanced Lab 13 March: Cordon and Search • Sustains • Having cadets begin in a “fire base” • Allowed for more rehearsal time and more effective team and squad rehearsals • 3rd PL (cMunoz) • Munoz acted as the 3PL, in charge of the “outer cordon”, allowed more cadets to participate on the actual OBJ, added another element to planning • Radios • Allowed for more effective communication between PL, APL, and SLs • Improves • Escalation of Force • Was not used during several points on the OBJ, resulting in the death of a civillian. Cadets were reminded of the difference between the 5 S’s of Escalation of Force and the 5 S’s of handeling detainees • Opord flip • Poor time management, PL and SLs were able to brief, but left no time for rehearsals

  21. 1 Training Event: Cordon and Search OIC: cTriplett, NCOIC: cRoessel MISSION: JMU Duke BN MS3 cadets conducts Ambush patrolling lane from 1535-1735 on 27MAR13 in AO Hillandale park in order to develop MS3 leadership potential and familiarize MS3’s with PLT sized ambush mission CONCEPT OF THE OPERATION This operation will have 4 phases. Phase 1: Phase will begin with the planning of the operation and with the briefing of the plan at the training meeting on 25MAR13. Phase 1 will conclude with the rehearsals complete on 26MAR13. Phase 2: Phase begins with FF at the parking lot in Hillendale Park. MS3 cadets will form up in prospective teams-squads-platoons. A select MS3 will conduct a spot check of the packing list (see below).cTriplett will emplace the OPFOR and ensue the OBJ location is correct. Phase will end once all equipment is issued and OPFOR are in place. Phase 3: Phase begins with movement to the AA. The ambush lane will be conducted, and the conclusion of this phase will be the end of the execution of the mission, which will be determined by cTriplett Phase 4: Phase begins with the AAR and ends with dismissal of all personnel and recovery of all equipment. MS3s will download weapons and gear into transportation prior to the AAR. Outcomes: MS3s are successfully trained in PLT size ambush planning, TLPs, and conducting infantry tactics IAW SH 21-76. MS4s successfully trained in planning and conducting ambush lane and evaluating cadets’ performance therein.   27. S-6 Cadet Lab Current status is GREEN (LABCON 3.0) SharePoint - Upload continuity to SharePoint, nothing has been added since I finished working on it. SharePoint will only be as good as we make it. Misc. News MS2’s and MS3’s have been notified of the openings in the S-6 shop. The hunt continues.

S-6 Apprenticeship Program • Created in order to develop younger cadets to assist in the maintenance of our website and have an understanding of how to use SharePoint. • It is my goal to have the selected MS2 and MS3 to provide assistance to cadre in the future in order maintain these resources.

  29. S-6 • Website – Re Construction Breakdown Phase 1: - 1 Hour class - on the strategy of cascades, learning to migrate content. These can be signed up for via MyMadison. I believe only professors can access it. Phase 2: - 2 Hour class - that immerses users in the basics of Cascades. (How to enter content / edit content) Phase 3: Will consist of several consultations, working with the Webmaster of JMU; we’ll able migrate existing content if we would like.
