  1. Preparing & Preaching Gospel Sermons “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15)

Be Prepared to Preach! • Have something to say, not just have to say something! • Preach the word, 2 Tim. 4:2 • You cannot preach what you do not know • You will preach what you do know: It will either be the truth or fables(2 Tim. 4:2-4) • Gospel preachers must be willing and prepared to “preach the gospel”(Rom. 1:15)

  3. What is the Purpose of Preaching? • To proclaim the gospel of Christ, to make disciples and to help disciples grow in Christ, Mk. 16:15-16; Matt. 28:19-20; 1 Cor. 1:21-24 • Preach the gospel to save the lost • Teach the saved (Christians) to observe all things Christ commands • The power of God & the wisdom of God

  5. A Gospel Sermon Must Be… • Scriptural • Speak words of God, 1 Pet. 4:11 • Inspired Scripture (God’s word, not man’s), 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 4:2 • Based on Scripture, supported by Scripture & appeals to Scripture • Turns people to Scripture, not to the man doing the preaching! 1 Ths. 2:1-4, 13

A Gospel Sermon Must Be… • Sound • Conform to the word of God, 2 Tim. 1:13; 1 Tim. 6:3-5 • False teachers exist, 1 Jno. 4:1, 6 • Any other gospel curses the preacher & those who receive it, Gal. 1:6-9 • Do not accept the preacher who is not preaching sound doctrine, 2 Cor. 11:3-4 (2 Jno. 9-11)

  7. A Gospel Sermon Must Be… • Studied,2 Tim. 2:14-18 • Be a good minister of Jesus Christ, 1 Tim. 4:6-16 • Instruct in words of faith,4:6 • Carefully follow,4:6 (2 Tim. 3:10) • Reject error & live godly,4:7-9(1:3-4) • Suffer reproach, 4:10 (2 Tim. 4:5) • Command, teach, exhort,4:11 (5:7; 6:2)
