  1. Communications in a Post-Newspaper World NAYDO Webinar sponsored by Lighthouse Counsel Jan. 22, 2014 By Robert Rivard www.rivardreport.com rivard@rivardreport.com

  2. The era of newspapers serving as the dominant community voice is coming to an end. Forever. Storytelling remains as relevant in the 21st century as it was when people first gathered around campfires. Technology allows everyone to tell their own story and to share it. Pull people’s heartstrings and you can pull their purse strings.

  3. There is Power in Helping People Tell Their Own Story

  4. Small and medium-sized communities that lack the resources of big city Red Cross chapters can still compete. Technology is the big equalizer. News orgs, for example, routinely post iPhone videos on blogs. Local chapters need to identity staffers willing or able to adapt to new ways of doing their work.

  5. Does Your Website Tell A Good Story?

  6. Technology Puts All of Us in the Game

  7. An Award-Winning Video Shot w/iPhone4s

  8. What is Wrong With This Picture?

  9. The Old Model Public relations professionals awaited media calls and responded. Press releases were tools to entice coverage. Story ideas pitched passively: U.S. Postal Service, then fax, then email. Third party stories were the goal.

  10. The New Model Media professionals must adapt and learn to tell their organization’s stories. Today’s media pro can write, take photos, shoot a video, edit and post on the Web, and deploy social media networks to broadcast a story without third party support. Blogs, interactive websites, and social media allow stories to ripple out like a pebble thrown in a pond. Mainstream media is desperate for content. Give it to them on a silver platter.

  11. Everyone is Telling Their Own Story San Antonio’s Mayor Julián Castro was looking for a way to show his lighter side after the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

  12. What’s Your YMCA Chapter Story? The Rivard Report will review any YMCA video stories produced between now and the April NAYDO conference and highlight the best video(s) on our website during the conference. First prize: Dinner for two on the River Walk. Judges: The BB Group of San Antonio. Are you up to the challenge? Thank you for your time and attention today. See you in April on San Antonio’s River Walk!
