  22. Scrimmage Plays This positioning is for when the ball is snapped from outside the 20 yard line

  23. Scrimmage Plays This positioning is for when the ball is snapped from inside the 20 yard line, but outside of the 5 yard line. Goal line is the responsibility of the Side Judge and Field Judge

  24. Scrimmage Plays This positioning is for when the ball is snapped from inside the 5 yard line. Goal line is the responsibility of the Linesman and Line Judge Side Judge and Field Judge stay on the corners

  25. Scoring Kicks Linesman and Line Judge hold the line of scrimmage Side Judge moves up to “double umpire” Umpire will work the side of the line towards the offensive team’s sideline Field Judge move under press-box side goal post

  26. Punts Linesman and Line Judge hold position until ball crosses the line Side Judge and Field Judge stand approximately 5 yards in front of the deepest receiver.

  27. Mechanic Notes During time outs, the FJ and LJ box in their team, monitor subs, and notify coach of time outs remaining. On the whistle, direct the team back to the line of scrimmage and out of the team box. Same mechanic for SJ and L. After each play the FJ and SJ accordion in ~5 yards at a 45o angle from the sideline toward the players and stay until the ready for play. After each play HL, LJ, and BJ accordion in ~5 yards straight toward the ball from their position and stay until the ready for play. FJ, SJ, BJ should never be behind the play (except for a change of possession during a down). LJ and L work with FJ and SJ respectively for sideline coverage – BJ has no sideline responsibility. One stays with the spot, the other does sideline clean-up/control.

  28. Mechanic Notes New balls are worked in through FJ and SJ. When a play ends in the side zone, FJ/SJ should come up to provide a relay point for passing the ball into the umpire from the defensive side of the line of scrimmage. Return balls that end up out of bounds to the proper sideline immediately through FJ, SJ, and BJ. Goal line is covered by two officials at all times. Don’t bunch up or run over each other in covering longer plays. Communicate – verbal and non-verbal.
