  4. Water For Life “All Albertans must recognize there are limits to the available water supply.” • Population levels will impact our future decisions • Want less talk and more action As a First Nations youth we must be actively involved http://www.waterforlife.alberta.ca/0889.html

  5. Why is water important to us? • Siksika were here since time immemorial: • considers the Water to be kin; • are the original “ecologists” • Way of life includes traditional ceremonies that take place at water’s edge.

  6. Blackfoot TerritoryThe Niitsitapi or Real People were allied with both the Saskatchewan and Missouri watersheds

  7. Siksika Water Society • Elder guided • Group will consist of: • Elders • Siksika department staff • Students • Teachers • Other government and non-government organizations

  8. Our journey begins… • Reported on Navigate 2012 to school (Mar) • Displayed poster at the Siksika Health Fair (May) • Planned • Field study with Siksika Land and Alberta Riparian Habitat Management Society (May) • Participation in Alberta Water Quality Awareness Day • Water quality testing at school (Sept)
