  1. Night Life #1

  2. Why do YOU come to Youth Group? You will be asked a similar question at the end of tonight.

  3. What should we do? How? • [1] What to call us? [A] Youth Group or [B] Youth Disciples? • [2-3] Several of you suggested that we should have more social and fun events outside of ‘CCD’ style meetings. What type of activities do you all suggest that we could do that are easy, affordable, enjoyable, and appropriate? When would be the best time to hold these events? • [3] Friday, 21st: We will be showing a movie this Friday at 6:30pm open to all Youth _____. What appropriate movies do you nominate?

  4. What should we do? How? (part 2) • [4] Several of you suggested that we should participate with local charities and in service projects to help our community, become more engaged in our faith, and to bond and form lasting friendships. Which ones? When? How often? (pass out and fill out survey) • [5] The October 7th Combined meeting will inspire others to serve by having ‘You all’ share your service experiences. So far we have Eric (Haiti) & Veteran Work Campers participating. Who else has volunteer experiences the would want to share with middle school and high-school youth?

  5. A Call to Holiness • “Holiness is not the luxury of the few but a simply duty for you and me, so let us be holy as our Father in heaven is Holy” Mother Teresa, Life in the Spirit, p 24 • “Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 • “Every Christian is called to follow Christ, to imitate Christ as perfectly as the circumstances of his [or her] life permits, and thereby to become a saint.” Thomas Merton, Life and Holiness, p 34.

  6. Teen Saint Skits • “Suppose there was a saint (or saint to be) that was your age and lived here in Winchester. How would they act in everyday situations? How would their words, actions, and intentions differ from their peers?” • Create a skit with your group that portrays a teen saint, participating in the particular setting or situation that is assigned to your group. • Skits should be somewhere between 2-3 minutes long. • Everyone in your group needs to participate • Props and creativity are encouraged. • Ensure they are appropriate they may be recorded.

  7. Small Group Discussion 1 Cor 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.” • [1] What does it mean “You are not your own”? • [2] How were you bought? What was the price? Who bought, and thus owns, you? • [3] How can you “glorify God” with your body?”

  8. Small Group Discussion (part 2) “The way of perfection passes by way of the Cross. There is no holiness without renunciation and spiritual battle.” CC 2015. • [4] What is the ‘way of the Cross? • [5] What are some examples of renunciation? • [6] Do you have any spiritual battles that you wish to share?

  9. Personal Hopes and Goals Take a pencil and paper and do the following: • Front: Your name + response to “What do you hope to accomplish over these next 9 months through Youth Group?” • Back: What can you start doing today to ‘imitate Christ as perfectly as the circumstances of your life permits?’ (Merton, p34)

  10. Closing Prayer (By Mother Teresa) • People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. • Forgive them anyway. • If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. • Be kind anyway. • If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends & genuine enemies. • Succeed anyway. • If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. • Be honest and sincere anyway. • What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. • Create anyway. • If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. • Be happy anyway. • The good you do today, will often be forgotten. • Do good anyway. • Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. • Give your best anyway • In the final analysis, it is between you and God. • It was never between you and them anyway.
