KICA - Knowledge • Introduction:Video “Who is Charles Darwin” • Activities: • Construct a timeline of the scientists and their contributions to evolution • Pairs of students pick one scientist and research further. • Gallery walk of the researched scientists. • Assessment:Short quiz on gallery walk during start of next class.

KICA - Communication • Library Research Assignment • Groups of 4 • Each student has a role Anatomist, Physiologist, Molecular Biologist, Palaeontologist) • Groups pick an organism to study • Use website and resources in the library to research. • Present their findings (8-10 minute presentation) • Assessment:70% Rubric, 30% Peer Evaluation

KICA - Application • Debate on Ethics of HIV Mutation. • Given notice a week ahead to research topic • Review research from text book (Evolutionary Analysis) • Break class into two groups • Opening statements, 30 min debate, closing statements • Assessment: Opening and closing statements with a checklist and participation.

KICA - Inquiry • Review Scientist from previous day. • Groups of 3 • Introduce Number Cube (Think-Pair-Share) • Introduce Name Cube (Only work in your group) • Create a hypothesis with supporting data as to “What is on the bottom” • Assessment: Formative on hypothesis • If having trouble ask teacher for a HINT!

  6. KICA - Inquiry • Get cube Template • Make your own cube: follow similar rules (can’t see the bottom) • Cube must be made about a scientist from the history of evolution. • Use his research, findings anything you want to make your cube. • Assessment: Rubric – Inquiry and communication
