  2. The STAC 2014 Committee is an Evolution of the Superintendent's Technology Advisory Committee • 2014 refers to getting 100% of our students proficient by that date and using technology as a tool to accelerate the learning of all students

  3. Superintendents Created the 2014 Committee for Two Reasons: • To identify and showcase districts, schools, and practitioners who use technology tools to accelerate learning for all students • To use SDCOE services to transform districts through a focus on using technology tools to serve the needs of instruction and learning

  4. The 2014 Committee Has Four Goals: • To help districts accelerate student achievement • To use technology tools and practices • To research successful technologies and practices, explore the use of these tools, and recommend ways to implement them for classroom use by students and teachers for accelerated achievement • To help districts monitor and evaluate the impact of technology tools

  6. Children today have vastly different experiences than we remember from ouryouth

  8. The experience of learning must be rich, complex, varied, differentiated, and connected to the student’s own personal experiences or those they find interesting

  9. The instructor is no longer the spotlight of the experience

Angus KingFormer Governor of Maine The Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) • First statewide learning with laptop initiative • Started by Governor Angus King in 2001 • State had a 50 million dollar surplus • Advised by Maine resident Seymour Papert • Targeted every 7th - 8th grade student & teacher • 241 schools, 33,000 students, and 3000 teachers • Apple Computer provided training for teachers, wireless infrastructure, and laptops • MLTI focuses on teaching and learning • Professional development is major focus
