Corn Distillers Grains for Finishing Cattle • As protein source, 8 to 15% of ration DM • As an energy source, > 15% of ration DM May reduce acidosis because highly digestible fiber in place of starch • Wt gains & feed efficiency of cattle fed wet distillers grains usually better than with corn • Wt gains and feed efficiency of cattle fed dry distillers grains usually similar to corn • At 15 to 25% of ration DM, wet distillers grains has it greatest value Protein and energy in distillers grains have value • DM intake may be reduces when wet distillers grains fed @ > 30% of ration DM Probably feeding excess protein Feeding excess P P does not have value for finishing cattle fed corn
