Batter’s Responsibility High School Softball Strike Zone • The batter has 10 seconds to take her position in the batter’s box after the ball has been returned to the pitcher to prepare for the next pitch. (7-3-1) • Penalty is a strike called on the batter. (7-3-1 penalty) 20 second clock starts

The Book Strike Zone 2-56-4 Arm Pits Top of knees High School Softball Strike Zone STRIKE ZONE The strike zone is the space over home plate which is between the batter’s forward armpit and the top of the knees when the batter assumes a natural batting stance. Any part of the ball passing through the strike zone in flight shall be constituted a strike. The umpire shall determine the batter’s strike zone according to the batter’s usual stance when swinging at a pitch. Book Strike Zone 25 inches wide • The effective width of the strike zone is 25 inches • Diameter of the ball is approximately 4 inches • Width of home plate is 17 inches

High School Softball Strike Zone The “Game” Strike Zone 2-56-4 STRIKE ZONE The strike zone is the space over home plate which is between the batter’s forward armpit and the top of the knees when the batter assumes a natural batting stance. Any part of the ball passing through the strike zone in flight shall be constituted a strike. The umpire shall determine the batter’s strike zone according to the batter’s usual stance when swinging at a pitch. To have an effective zone, call strikes when the ball passes through the light green area 25 inches wide
