  2. In 2005, architect Ahmed Saleem realized his dreams and decided to open the world's first underwater restaurant Ithaa at Resort Conrad Maldives on Rangali Island. In Ithaa, five meters below the Indian Ocean, guests can enjoy the five-star cuisine offered there while watching sharks and blue fish swim by under an acrylic roof. It is an architectural marvel; in a sense, and in essence, the ultimate highlight of Mr. Saleem's life's work. What Mr. Saleem really wanted to build was an underwater bedroom where he could spend the night dreaming underwater and waking up under the waves. This year, he finally had his dream come true - The "Muraka", is a glass hotel room, the 16,

  3. Innovation Located in the Heart of Rangali Island - The Resort was one of the first in the Maldives to offer villas on stilts over the water to its guests and holidaymakers, and was also able to open an underwater restaurant as another attraction. The "Muraka", in the national language Dhivehi, can be translated into German as "coral". The construction is made of steel, concrete and acrylic and is designed with respect to the local ecosystem. The hotel has marine biologists to ensure that the underwater villa has minimal impact on the surrounding coral and subsea ecosystem.

  4. The design of the Muraka transforms the master bedroom into a human aquarium, where fish swim and swim around the suite. The entire lower suite was built in Japan by the best aquarium manufacturer Nippura Co. ashore. The acrylic components used in the construction of the Ithaa Underwater Restaurant are sealed with the sealant of Shin Etsu Marine. Then the 600-tonne construction was lifted by crane on a special vessel, transported to the Maldives and sunk in the sea near the reef (without damaging it) and professionally anchored there. The entire constriction is held firmly in place by a total of ten concrete piles to ensure that they can not move or move in tides or rough seas.

  5. From then on, it was all about connecting the upper and lower levels of the suite and turning the space from an acrylic tube into a luxurious holiday destination. This was done by Yuji Yamazaki Architecture, a Tokyo design office that has created a seamless space on the upper floor. The upper floor consists of glass walls overlooking the waves, a private jetty, an infinity pooland remote decks. Guests can either take the elevator or follow a spiral staircase; Almost like the rabbit hole at Alice in Wonderland, just under water.

  6. It is of course not a cheap holiday pleasure. At $ 50,000, the four-day vacation package costs $ 200,000 - quite heavy for a vacation underwater. It is much more than just a hotel room. Guests of the "Muraka" are flown on and off the island in a private seaplane and picked up at their own jetty by a speedboat, which they can also use for the rest of their stay. The "Muraka" itself is located in the sea, far away from the beach villas of Conrad and the bungalows over the water, for maximum privacy. Suite guests will be well looked after by friendly and helpful staff, including a butler and a chef, who provide 24-hour service. Everything from massage therapists to make-up artists, to trainers, etc. You can also book for an extra charge. After booking the suite, guests will receive the diamond status of the Hilton hotel group as a souvenir of their stay.
