  1. Look through the pictures of children playing in the block area. • Identify the parts of the preschool scientific method present in each photo. • Turn to page 16 in your Participant Guide and jot down your thoughts for this area.

  2. Look through the photographs of materials from the sand and water table. • How might children use these materials in a way that would involve any of the 6 components of the PSM? • Turn to page 17 in your Participant Guide and record your thoughts.

  3. With your partner, make clothes for a stuffed animal. • List the parts of the PSM you used along with an example of what you were doing. • e.g., Predicting – I don’t think the yarn is strong enough to use as a belt for the pants. • Turn to page 18 in your Participant Guide and record how you think children would engage in the PSM in the house area.

  4. Look through the pictures of children in the art area. • Identify the parts of the preschool scientific method present in each photo. • Turn to page 18 in your Participant Guide and jot record your thoughts.

  5. Turn to page 20 in your Participant Guide. • Read about Melody’s experience in the toy area. Use the column on the right to fill in parts of the PSM you see Melody using. • Turn to page 19 in your Participant Guide and record your thoughts about science in toy area.

  6. Explore the materials and talk about the parts of the PSM that you used. • Use your science eyes to reexamine what your children do outdoors. • Turn to page 17 in your Participant Guide and record your thoughts about the PSM outdoors. Outdoor Play Space
