  4. What is fasting? • No food or drinks (no candy either!) • Children and very old people do not have to fast • Sacrifice • Does your family make sacrifices? • CONNECTION Other faiths have some fasting practices too!

  5. Why do Muslims fast? • FASTING is one of the Pillars of Faith for Muslims When we fast, we…. • learn what poor and hungry people feel • appreciate what we have • are thankful to God for blessings

  7. Beginning of a day in Ramadan People who fast: • Eat a morning meal called sahoor (it’s not breakfast!) • Foul medammes, eggs, oatmeal, honey, fruit, and/or good fats • Stop eating at dawn

  8. End of Day in Ramadan People who fast: • Eat an evening meal at sunset called iftar • Eat dates • Perform special prayer called taraweh

  9. People who fast eat… • Dates (these are a delicious, sweet fruit packed with nutrients) • A good balance from all the food groups Let's taste a DATE!

  10. Yeah! It’s Eid Al-Fitr!!! Ramadan is over, Eid Mubarak! Let's celebrate.....

  16. Step 1: Choose your paper color Step 2: Cut a 1 in. strip off the short side; trade strip w/ friend for added color; write your name on it! Let's make a fanooz!

  17. Step 3: Make the "Hot Dog" fold (length-wise) Step 4: Mark line for your cutting stopping point Step 5: Cut strips starting at the FOLD; your paper will look like a giant comb once it's all cut! Step 6: Unfold and decorate as desired Step 7: Staple top/bottom and fasten handle
