  2. EQ- What are the political and economic factors that led to the American Revolution

  3. Vocabulary • Colony- A place that is separate, still under another countries rule • Colonist- Those who live in colony • Pilgrim- someone who travels to find religious freedom in new area

  4. Vocab ext. • American Revolution- war between 13 colonies and England in 1775 • Independence- Freedom from ruling country

  5. Pilgrims • Pilgrims came to America on the Mayflower • Pilgrims look for religious freedom from mother country England • Mayflower landed in Massachusetts • Pilgrims settled the 13 colonies

  6. The 13 Colonies • The Plymouth Colony was first • Georgia became 13th colony in 1733 • Colonists in new territory, still under English rule

  7. Taxes • England ordered colonists to pay taxes • This made the colonists angry, Many did not pay unfair taxes • American Revolution began in 1775 • Colonists wanted independence from England

  8. Washington • George Washington, in 1775, was chosen as American army leader • Washington had to train mostly farmers to be soldiers

  9. Valley Forge • Washington led army to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania In winter of 1777 • Army was without necessary supplies like shoes/shirts

  10. Valley Forge Cont. • Many men froze or starved to death • As few left many stayed with their brave leader George Washington

  11. Baron Von Steuben • Baron Von Steuben was German officer who trained u.s. soldiers • Improved American soldiers to first class soldiers

  12. Independence • In 1781, British army surrendered to Washington • Original 13 colonies became the 13 states of the united states
