  1. Three men eat at a restaurant. The bill comes to Rs.25/-. They each pay Rs.10/-. When the waiter brings the Rs. 5/- change they take back Re.1 each and leave a Rs. 2/- tip. So each man has paid Rs 9/-, which totals Rs. 27/-. The waiter has the Rs.2/- tip, which makes Rs. 29/-, so where's the other Re. 1/- gone?

  2. The answer is that the figures will not add to Rs. 30/- because they are not from the same equation. Equation 1: What's been paid is Rs. 25/- for the meal - which is in the bill, and Rs. 2/- for the tip - in the waiter's pocket, leaving the men with Re. 1/- each, i.e. Rs. 3/-, which all adds up to Rs. 30/-. Equation 2: The men have each paid Rs. 9/- for the meal and the tip together, i.e. Rs. 27/-, and they each have a Re. 1/- in their pocket, i.e. Rs. Rs. 3/-, which all adds up to Rs. 30/-.
