  9. The Miraculous gifts of today

  10. Today people have many questions regarding miraculous gifts, signs, gifts, healing and speaking in tongues. Question is frequently asked whether the Holy Spirit is still dispensing these gifts in the Church today. If so, whether every Christian can and should receive and exercise them.

  11. The case of Glossolalia has been argued throughout the 20th Century. By Pentecostal groups now more generally termed as charismatic groups. Their argument based on book of Acts. No indication that Holy Spirit will cease to bestow this gift on the Church. They emphasize the benefit it produces in the Christian, Spiritual life, (Paul says in Cor 14:18, 13:3) speaking in tongues is both possible and desirable for the Christians.

  12. Those who rejects these gifts says that the purpose of the miraculous gift was to attest to and thus authenticate the revelation and the incarnation. When the purpose has been fulfilled the miraculous being unnecessary, they simple faded away.

  13. More important in many ways is to have fruit of spirit. In the end no conclusions should be drawned in advance as to whether it is genuine or not, then follow the procedure laid down by Paul (1-Cor 14). Speaking followed by interpretation finally emphasis in scripture is you the one who bestow rather than who receive them .

  14. Implication of the work of the Spirit. 1. The gifts are bestowals upon us – by the Holy Spirit not our own accomplishment. They are intended to be used in the fulfillment of His plans. 2. The Holy Spirit empowers believers in their Christian life and service. 3. The Holy Spirit dispenses His gifts to the Church wisely and sovereignly 4. No one gift is for everyone and no one person has every gift. The fellowship of the body is needed for full spiritual development of the individual believer.

  15. 5. Rely on Holy Spirit to give understanding of the Word of God . 6. Know your gifts and use them for building of the Body of Christ 7. Ask God for gifts of the Holy Spirit.
