  1. Welcome to Mrs. Abdo’sClass

  2. Welcome I welcome you all to my World History/Geography class. I am excited to have you in my class and look forward to our time together. To get us started on the right foot, I have outlined the following…

  3. Rules • Be on time for Class • Be prepared and on Task • No food, Gum or drinks (except water) allowed in class. • No electronic devices allowed in class. • No head gear allowed in class. (except for religious purposes) • No swearing, derogatory or racial statements. • Respect: Students will not act negatively towards other students or teacher in an aggressive way. Come to class with a good attitude and ready to learn.

  4. Behavior Policy • 1st offense: The students will be asked to comply with class/school rules. This is a warning. • 2nd offense: The students will be asked to comply with class/school rules, the student will be given an after school detention that will be served in my class. • 3rd offense: The students will be asked to comply with class/school rules, the student will be given an after school detention and a phone conference will occur between teacher and guardian about the student’s behavior. Administrative detention will be served at the school designated site. • 4th offense: The student will be referred to school administration.

  5. Entering Classroom • Upon entering my classroom you will… • Take your seat • Take out your homework • Do the Warm Up • Start warm-up BEFORE the bell rings.

  6. What You Will Need Every Day in My Classroom Everyday • 3 hole punched college ruled 8 ½ X 11 inch notebook paper (spiral bound not accepted) • blue or black pen • #2 pencils, sharpened • Highlighter

  7. Homework • Expect it! Short term assignments, long term projects and research will require your attention at home most days.

  8. Warm-Up Procedure • You will start it BEFORE the bell. This is not negotiable. • Please remember that you are given points for your warm-ups but are not eligible for those points if you are late. • This warm-up is in class participation points and can not be made up. Attendance is part of the grade.

  9. Major Assignments • Major Assignments • Major assignments will be given a due date, a deadline and a grading rubric. • Due Date: the date your assignment is due to me. • Deadline: the last possible minute I will accept ANY work, regardless of tardy or absence (both excused and non-excused). • Grading Rubric- a list of things that must be completed in order to obtain a certain grade on an assignment.

  10. Bathroom Policy • Bathroom • Students will receive two bathroom passes per semester. Once both have been used, you will not be able to go to the bathroom. If you are in danger of having an “accident” and you have used all your bathroom passes, you may go to the restroom in exchange for 15 minutes of your time During lunch. • Passes not used during the semester can be turned in at the end of the semester for 20 extra credit points each.

  11. Pencils, Garbage, Etc. • You will sharpen pencils before class or during group work. NOT when I am talking. • You may get up and throw away garbage before class, after class and during group work. • Trash is to be placed into the waste basket, NOT tossed, thrown, or slam dunked.

  12. Eating and Drinking in My Class • Eating is not allowed in class as a school policy. Sorry. • You may only drink water in my class.

  13. Attendance • Your attendance is your issue. If you are not present for a class you must… • Check what you missed on your own time • Pick up any handouts • Turn in your homework within the amount of time you were absent. (i.e. you were gone for 2 days, you have 2 days (this class period) to turn in complete work to me.) • I will not accept work with an unexcused absence.

  14. Tardy • If you are tardy you are expected to come in quietly and join whatever we are doing without disruption. Please do not try to talk to me about your tardy until after class.

  15. Grades • Grades can be discussed before school or during lunch, Monday through Friday, or by appointment. • Grades are determined by adding the total number of points that you receive • Your grade is based on a combination of participation, warm-up and class work. • Your grade will also be affected by major projects, papers and your final exam.

  16. Grades • The following is my grading structure; • A = 90 – 100 (Well-exceeds expectation) • B = 80 – 89 (Above average expectation) • C = 70 – 79 (Average expectation) • D = 60 – 69 (Below average expectation) • F = 0 – 59 (Failing to meet expectation)

  17. Participation • Participation is a requirement of this class. Participation includes the following: • Discussion of class addressed topics • Participation in class activities • Class work • Presentations

  18. Parting Message • You are powerful beyond your understanding. I have great expectations of all of you. I expect you to succeed in this class and I will do whatever is within my power to help you. I already believe in you.
