An Overview of the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology • Started as Computer Center within University of Malaya in 1965 • Became Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology in 1994 • Currently has approx. 1,128 students (as at 10 Dec 2010) 577 postgraduate ~ 551 undergraduate and ~ 76 lecturers + 27 administrative + 15 technical staff

  10. Starting from September 2011, next semester after all Curriculum Review has been approved, all mix mode (Coursework & Dissertation) for MCS, MSE, MLIS and MIT will be 56 credit hours. (which consists 40 hours on Dissertation)

Directions of the Faculty • Increasing emphasis on quality education • Graduate within 4 semesters (Masters) / 8 semesters (PhD) (financial rewards for early completion for PhD students) • Have the necessary knowledge and soft skills • Increasing emphasis on research and publication • Increased facilities • Incentives for students doing research, e.g. financial support, conference participation, publication, etc. • In future, there will be extra space for Postgraduate in the Wisma R&D.

Reminders • Please register for your courses as per schedule – Thursday, 28 December 2010, 2.30 pm at Seminar A & B Room, Institute Graduate Studies (IGS) • Please sign up for SISWAMAIL when you register – much of communication from the University and IGS will be through e-mail / mailing list using your SISWAMAIL address • Sign up for your program mailing list • mcsfsktm@list.um.edu.my • msefsktm@list.um.edu.my • mlisfsktm@list.um.edu.my Important communication from the faculty will be through mailing list • Check your e-mail at least once a day; messages from UMMAIL will be removed after one week

  21. Reminders • Study smart – aim to finish your program within stipulated period. • Please practice academic integrity – cheating and plagiarism are serious offences, and can result in students losing their degree.

  22. Marking Scheme For intake starting 2009 onwards please refer Programme Handbook page 129 applicable for Master Degree and PhD candidates.
