  2. Mandala Background. • Working in Somerset for 6 years. • Team of 12 qualified creative therapists. Mostly sessionals • Now working in Dorset, Wiltshire and Devon • Contracts with Somerset CC, Somerset NHS, Dorset CC • Registered provider of Alternative Provision in Wiltshire • Partners with Yarlington Housing Association • Barnardo’s invest voluntary funds • Largely reliant on spot purchased income. 50%

  3. Our partnership with schools. Identify children (5-18) where the schools support can’t be successful until the core issues that child is holding are given therapeutic attention. Last 18 months contracts with; Heathfield School – Taunton Churchfield Primary – Highbridge Taunton School Fairmead School – Yeovil Holyrood Academy – Chard Wadham Community School – Crewkerne Bucklers Mead School – Yeovil Stanchester Academy – Stoke-sub-Hamdon St Michael’s Academy – Yeovil Many other sessions delivered in other schools. Referrals funded by Schools, Local Authorities, Housing Associations

  4. Our Offer • 1:1 therapeutic sessions • Therapeutic group work (bereavement, domestic abuse, suicide) • Therapeutic play • Supervision / Training Multi-agency approach Liaison with parents/carers Attendance at Multi-agency meetings Submission of report/recommendations. Creative therapies!

  5. 1:1 Sessions Therapeutic package of in depth child psychotherapy, supporting early childhood trauma or abuse, insecure attachment and low self esteem. • Domestic abuse • Sexual abuse • Complex bereavement (i.e via suicide) • Children in Care / Placement breakdown • Socially isolated due to disability • Sexually inappropriate behaviour Sessions take place in school. Minimum 10 sessions • We employ Play therapists, Arts Therapists, Sandplay therapists, Drama & Movement Therapists. All qualified with current accreditation and membership of a relevant professional body. All provided with independent supervision.

  6. Therapeutic groups These are commissioned groups currently, places allocated by referral • Children affected by domestic abuse. (5 groups, one per district) • Group for children affected by the suicide of a family member (May 2013) • Group for children affected by complex bereavement (Every October, Huish Woods) Staff offered training to work at groups Mandala video on website. Case Studies Maya & Stanley.

Therapeutic Play Somerset Play & Participation / Healthy Schools work Recent work with; • Berkeley Junior School, Frome. • Priorswood Primary School, Taunton The Model. • 10 weekly sessions, • 6 children • High staff ratio, incl qualified therapist, playworkers and school staff • Outdoors/creative • 1:1 therapeutic support available • Group supervision

Key Outcomes / benefits • Improve Peer Relationships • Build confidence / resilience • Ability to express feelings • Reduce impact of trauma • Improved child/parent/carer relations • Learn new skills • Have fun – free play! Outcomes Monitoring showing 85%+ improvements on all target outcomes. • Support the (re)-emergence of a child who wants to enjoy & achieve at school. And cope with being at school.

  9. Funding & Costs Mandala has grown its income threefold since 2010 Commissioned Groups (Bereavement, Suicide, Domestic Abuse) are free. Individual referrals are based on a charge of £38/hr for our therapists. Therapeutic Play Groups – by negotiation based on same unit cost. There are potential economies of scale. We want to encourage a more collective approach.
