Local Cobb County Leaders In the United States federal system each of the 50 states have their own governmental and political systems.  In addition to state government there are thousands of local government entities that are responsible for the day to day operation of public policy in towns, villages and communities throughout the country.  All of these local units of government regardless of their title are "creatures of the state" in that they are chartered and receive legitimacy from the state government to assist the state in more capably performing the specific function for which they were created.  There are as many different types of organizational structures as there are local governments.  Cobb County, GA has a county commission elected by the people to act as a legislative body.  The commission in turn hires a county manager to oversee the day to day execution of policy as enacted by the commission.
