  1. How To Use MrV’s Sums Table- For Subtraction Terminology Review:17 – 9 = 8 Minuend – Subtrahend = Difference

  2. Using the Sums Table for Subtraction: For Subtraction:Each Cellholds 3 numbers:- The Minuend is the big number.- The little numbers are the Subtrahend and DifferenceMin – Sub = Diff For Addition:Each Cellholds 3 numbers:The Sum(big number) and its 2 Addends This Cell defines two different subtractions:14 – 8 = 6 and 14 – 6 = 8 In this Cell, the Sum is 14 and theAddends are 8 + 6.

  3. Let’s Look at One Cell Borrowing:Have you noticed that Borrowing always results in a number from 10 to 18? / / / / / / / / / / / / If you are unclear on these subtractions, you can use the table to find them quickly: For 15 – 7 use the 7th row to look for a big 15 The second addend 8 is the difference So: 15 – 7 = 8 You can also look along the diagonal of “teen” minuendsto find the subtrahend. The other addend is always the difference. Try 15 – 9 …There are two places to find the answer, the 6th row or 9th row So: 15 – 9 = 6

  4. Subtracting a 1-digit Number 15 – 7=? 15 1. Find the Rowthat matches the Subtrahend In this case, it’s Row 7: 3. The 2ndaddend below it is the difference 15 minus 7is 8 8 2. Look across the Row until you see the Minuend(It’s the big number) In this case, it’s 15

  5. Ok, let’s try a few: Click when you find the Sum 14 – 8 = 14 10 – 4 = 10 6 17 – 9 = 17 7 13 – 6= 13 6 8
