Who could possibly mind the smell? • What is being questioned? • The smell of the new paint doesn’t matter as they are over come with excitement by the Doll’s house. • When? • Upon receiving the doll house. • By Who? • The narrator. • What does it show us about different characters? • The narrator is coming from the children’s point of view. It shows that the children find the smell irrelevant as they are so excited about the doll’s house. • What is the effect on the tone of the story? It is different at different points? • The tone is light, happy and carefree. • It provides a contrast to Aunt Beryl’s previous description of the Doll’s house. • How does it make us feel about the Doll’s house? • It makes us feel what the two girls would be feeling, that the smell is nothing compared to the excitement of the new Doll’s house.
