What are we trying to get out of a shallow cross
What are we trying to get out of a shallow cross

  • We want to throw the shallow!

  • We will try to isolate a linebacker that we think struggles in space and try to get him in a hi-lo situation.

  • The shallow is going to be thrown to a dynamic athlete.

  • The dig is going to be thrown to a bigger body target. Split End or TE.

  • Important after the catch. Get Vertical. Undercoached.

Getting Vertical After the Catch

  • At first opportunity put your foot in the ground and up field.

  • You should never be tackled from the side.

  • Understand that defenders that are taught properly pursue from all angles.
