  1. INTRODUCTION

  2. Respiratory disease is a medical term that encompasses pathological conditions of the upper respiratory, tract, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, pleura, and pleural cavity, and the nerves and muscles of breathing • Respiratory diseases range from mild and self-limiting, such as the common cold, to life-threatening entities like bacterial pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, and lung cancer

  3. COMMON DISORDERS

  4. Apnea • Absence of breathing

  5. Asthma • A lung disease characterized by reversible inflammation and constriction

  6. Bronchial Pneumonia/ Bronchopneumonia • Inflammation of the smaller bronchial tubes

  7. Bronchiolitis • Inflammation of the bronchioles

  8. Bronchiostenosis • Narrowing of the bronchial tubes

  9. Bronchitis • Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bronchial tubes

  10. Bronchomalacia • Degeneration or softening of the bronchi

  11. Bronchorrea • Excessive mucus production by a bronchus

  12. Bronchospasm • Abnormal contraction of bronchi

  13. Bronchostenosis • Chronic narrowing of a bronchus

  14. Dyspnea

  15. Emphysema • Condition in which the alveoli are inefficient because of distension

  16. Laryn- • Laryngitis • Inflammation of the larynx • Laryngospasm • Involuntary contraction of the larynx • Laryngostenosis • A narrowing of the larynx

  17. Pharyn- • Pharyngitis • Inflammation of the pharynx • Pharyngocele • A hernia or diverticulum in the pharynx • Pharyngoplegia • Paralysis of the pharynx • Pharyngospasm • Involuntary contraction of the pharynx • Pharyngostenosis • Narrowing of the pharynx

  18. Phren- • Phrenalgia • Pain in the diaphragm • Phrenoplegia • Paralysis of the diaphragm • Pneumolith • Calculus in a lung

  19. Pneumonia • Inflammation of a lung caused by infection, chemical inhalation, or trauma

  20. Rhin- • Rhinalgia/ Rhinodynia • Pain in the nose • Rhinitis • Inflammation of the inner lining of the nasal cavity • Rhinopathy • Any disease of the nose

  21. Rhinorrhea • Discharge from the rhinal mucous membrane

  22. Rhinostenosis • Narrowing or obstruction occurring in the nasal passages

  23. Sinusitis • Inflammation of the respiratory sinuses

  24. Tracheitis • Inflammation of the trachea

  25. Tracheomalacia • Softening (degeneration) of tracheal tissue

  26. Tracheomegaly • Abnormal dilation of the trachea

  27. Tracheorrhagia • Hemorrhage of the trachea

  28. Tracheostenosis • Abnormal narrowing of the trachea

  29. DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

  30. Angiogram • Printed record obtained through angiography

  31. Bronchoscope Bronchoscopy Inspection using a bronchoscope • A device for visually inspecting the interior of a bronchus

  32. Laryngoscope Laryngoscopy Visual inspection of the larynx with the aid of a laryngoscope • Instrument with a light at the tip to aid in visual inspection of the larynx

  33. Pharyngoscope Pharyngoscopy Visual inspection of the pharynx with the aid of a pharyngoscope • Instrument with a light at the tip to aid in visual inspection of the pharynx

  34. Rhinoscope Rhinoscopy Visual inspection of the nasal areas • A small mirror with a thin handle; used in rhinoscopy
