  1. Blackboard Open Meeting Faculty eLearning Team

  2. Why an Open Meeting • Give you some background to Blackboard and how it could impact your teaching and learning • Bring you up to date with migration of your School’s current WebCT courses • Outline what we mean by ‘non-standard’ courses and let you know the current state of play for this provision • Most importantly to have a discussion with you about your questions, concerns and issues related to the implementation of Blackboard Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  3. Blackboard • University's new VLE which will replace WebCT (WebCT will be ‘turned off’ 19th September) • We are in Phase III which is a development phase so we do not have the answers to all questions Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  4. How is Blackboard set up? • Blackboard is currently very tightly linked to Campus Solutions • There is a Blackboard presence for every ‘class’ in Campus Solutions • Students enrolled on classes in Campus Solutions will automatically have access to the corresponding section in Blackboard • Information on the class is fed from Campus Solutions to Blackboard e.g. who is the ‘Primary Instructor’ and which students are on the class Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  5. What needs to happen for you to have a Blackboard presence • In Campus Solutions • A Class Scheduled for the appropriate Term • Your Administrator needs to ‘Flag’ VLE=BBDEVELOP in the Class Meeting Screen. This will create a Development area in Blackboard. Students will not see this. • Correct Instructor and TA information needs to be in the Class Meeting Screen • A training guide for administrators is available from http://www.manchester.ac.uk/elearning Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  6. Accessing your Blackboard areas • We would recommend you wait until University templates are available. These will: • Make it easier for you to get started • Provide guidance on minimum required content Details of when templates are ready will be available • On the Faculty eLearning site • In the Faculty Bulletins and the Teaching and Learning bulletin • Emails to Schools • Go to www.manchester.ac.uk/elearning • Click Login to Blackboard • Type your central username and password Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  7. Migrating your School’s current WebCT courses • School specific information available from elearning@manchester.ac.uk Correct 16th April Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  8. Non-standard Blackboard courses • Examples • Resource type provision which is across discipline • Resource type provision which is across year • Pre-arrival sites • …. • We have a list of WebCT courses, some of which have been identified as ‘non-standard’ • We might be in touch with course owners for further information • This information has been collated and is being considered by a central Working Group • May need to rethink the delivery of some teaching and learning activity Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team

  9. Discussions and Questions? Faculty of Humanities Faculty eLearning Team
