  3. It is the most important river to India- its tributaries run through the most fertile and densely populated areas

  4. The Ganges is named for a goddess and is sacred to the Hindus- it is an important Hindu ritual to bathe in this river

  5. INDUS RIVER – Pakistan- begins in Himalayas in Tibet

  6. Largest irrigation system in the world- flows through desert!

  7. Brahmaputra River flows from Himalayas through Bangladesh to the Bay of Bengal- prone to severe flooding

  8. Southeast Asia

  9. Mekong River- comes from the Himalayas and goes through:China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam

  10. Affects lives of 60 million people poorest in the world regions most important crop is rice

  11. Himalayan Mountain Range *Tallest Range in the world Northern edge of India, Nepal and Bhutan *Nine of the World’s ten tallest peaks are found here INCLUDING… Mt. Everest

  12. South China Sea- prone to monsoons and typhoons
