IP presents developing countries with challenges & opportunities • IP’s linkages to education, health, agriculture, industrial development, science etc - How to adapt to the new technologies and business models? • Global imbalance of IP ownership - What are the implications of the fast growing middle-economies? • Ever increasing number of global IP registrations - Will the system withstand the strain? • Promoting rapid economic and human development - how best to use the IP system? Effective IPRTA is key for addressing these challenges

IPRTA Forum’s objectives • Deepen constructive dialogue on strategic IPRTA issues among diverse network of developing countries, donors, international organisations and NGOs in an informal, constructive atmosphere • Share information on new and existing initiatives related to IPRTA and capacity building in developing countries, and build partnerships among and between key stakeholders • Map out and implement a strategic framework for evolving and mainstreaming IPRTA in development co-operation over the medium term • Catalyze concrete actions and follow-up by stakeholders through pilot projects, toolkits and knowledge network
