Iowa’s NIATx Experience • Prairie Ridge receives Pathways to Recovery Grant • State of Iowa – submitted application and chosen as one of 4 states to work on a State/Payor Pilot initiative in 2004 • Mecca/UCS/SATUCI/Winterset/Magellan • Walkthroughs • June 2006 – Iowa invited to be part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation “Cross Systems Financing” Project • Populations: co-occurring mental health/substance abuse • Services: financing, training, and development of programs • Funding: Medicaid and substance abuse block grant DeAnn Decker Iowa Department of Public Health

Awarded STAR-SI Grant -2006 Process Improvement Project for all Block Grant funded (now 24) Substance Abuse Provider agencies in Iowa. • Improve State and treatment agency level organization processes • Improve client access to and retention in outpatient treatment DeAnn Decker Iowa Department of Public Health

Now • Significant improvements: • 62.4% reduction in wait times • 12.5% increase in services to clients in the first 30 days • One program improved fee-for-service revenue over 62% • IDPH aligned: • Treatment, prevention and gambling • Goal - System Transition to a Recovery-Oriented System of Care compatible with healthcare reform by 2014 DeAnn Decker Iowa Department of Public Health
