  2. Session Outline • What is the MSP? • The Math MSP Up Close • What does my student need to know? • How can I help my student pass the Math MSP?

  3. What is the MSP? • The Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) is the state’s exam for students in grades 3-8. The MSP name conveys the goal of the test: to measure student progress. • Our state tests measures students' performance against a set of learning standards.

  4. What does the msp look like? • The mathematics MSP consists of 35 questions. • 25 multiple choice • 5 completion • 5 short-answer • The mathematics test is now taken online in one session. All work and answers are to be typed. MSP Online Testing Demo

  5. Sample Test Questions • To get a feel for the type of questions and level of work needed to complete an MSP question we will now look at some sample questions.

  6. What does my student need to know? • Every MSP question is linked to a specific grade level standard. • These standards are the foundation for all teaching at Chehalis Middle School. Let’s take a look!

  7. How can I help my child pass the msp? • Be informed! • Knowledge is power. How can I help my child pass the msp? • Find the positive in math! • A student’s attitude towards math can go a long way to improving their work. • Find math in the everything things. • Get your child involved in anything that reinforces mathematical ideas – • Cooking (measurement) • Building/construction (ratio, proportion, geometry) • Solving puzzles (algebraic thinking)
