  3. Get it together with your Interactive Notebook

  4. What is an Interactive Notebook? • A personalized textbook • A working portfolio – all of your notes, class work, quizzes – in one convenient spot.

  5. Purpose • Be a creative, independent and reflective thinker and writer throughout the year. • Express your own ideas and processes and/or apply the information and skills learned in this class.

Right Side • The Right side belongs to Mrs. Bryant • The Right side has all “testable” information • Date • Title and Unit pages • Vocabulary • Class, reading, and discussion notes • Worksheets • Table of Contents • Study Guides • Quizzes • Content and Language Objectives • Other relevant information

  8. Right Side • 1. Should be completely done. • 2. Should clearly have both the title of the assignment at the top and the date centered to the right of the title. The page should be numbered in the top right-hand corner. • 3. All assignments should be in chronological order by the times they were assigned. • 4. All right side assignments should be done only on right sides unless otherwise instructed. Any missing part (date, title, incomplete, etc.) will cause points to be deducted during a notebook check.

Left Side • Left Side is to record your thinking, reflections, questions, thoughts, impressions, connections, and wonderings. • The Left side belongs to YOU! • Apply skills learned in class • Use graphs, charts, Venn Diagrams, research from internet • Make connections between new and old learning • Questions • Thinking Maps • Poems • Songs • Homework • Class work • Brainstorming • Sketches related to learning • Other relevant information

Left Side Grading Scale 100 = Work is clear, focused, and reveals considerable effort and personal reflection. 95 = Work is generally clear, focused, and reveals effort and personal reflection 85 = Work is sufficient and reflective 75 = Work is sparse but shows reflection. 65 = Incomplete and not reflective 0 = Work is missing

  14. Student Materials • Binder (STAYS IN CLASS Unless Otherwise Instructed) • Notebook paper • 5 tab dividers • Writing Utensils

Maintaining the Interactive Notebook • No ripped out pages or torn corners • No doodling that doesn’t relate to notes • Date, title and number each page • The table of contents must be updated regularly and will be checked during each notebook check. • The Right Side of everyone’s INB must MATCH!

  16. INB Checks! Each time the notebook is evaluated it will constitute a test grade. Notebook checks are unannounced and can occur at any random time during the school year.
