  1. Mummies for dummies The professional guide to excellence

  2. Step 1: the brain To remove the brain you have to: • Use one of your metal tools and go through his left nostril • Break through the bone in the back of the nasal cavity • Take out the tool and replace it with the hooked one • Whip around in the brain until most of it has turned into a liquid substance • Take out the tool and let the brain drip out through his nose • Once all of it has come out, use the gooey resin and refill the brain cavity with it. This will ensure that the head doesn't collapse with the empty brain cavity • Plug the nose and ears with some bits of cloth so that the resin doesn't leak out and it can dry Fun fact: Ancient Egyptians thought that thoughts came from the heart and blood was pumped from the brain. Now, we now that this is the exact opposite! Tools that were used in the mummifying process

  3. Step 2: the other stuff Did you know that ancient Egyptians believed that the left side was the holy side of the body because the heart was on the left side? That is why you must remove the brain and organs from the left side. After removing the brain and treating the brain cavity, this is how you would remove the other organs: • First, slice a hole into the left side of the body, about at the abdomen • Next, remove the liver, lungs, stomach and intestines, and be sure to leave the heart inside the body • Wash the organs with wine and then dry them with natron, a mix of baking soda and salt • Put the organs in Canopic jars. They have demigod heads for lids These are what Canopic jars look like

  4. Step 3: the mummifying of a mummy After doing all of the nasty stuff, it is now time to do what makes a mummy a mummy • Massage oil onto the skin. This will make the body easier to work with and easier to preserve • Wrap the mummy very carefully with linen wrap. Be sure to put some amulets in the wrapping • While wrapping, say spells to wish the dead person a good afterlife. The spells and amulets will provide the person with a physical and magical shield • Smear the surface with some gum to help the wrapping stay sturdy and stuck together. A small piece of mummy wrapping An amulet that might have been put to rest with a mummy

  5. Step 6: box it up The last step in making a mummy is the most decorative step of all. • First, cover the mummy with a linen shroud. • Next, place the mummy in it’s coffin. • If the person or the person’s family has paid a lot of money or valuables, the head’s cover should be made of plaster and decorated with gold and semi precious stones. If not, the head’s cover should be made of a Paper Mache material made of papyrus. • Place the head’s cover on the head and lower the mummy into his/her coffin • Close the coffin lid and transport the mummy to his/her tomb or temple Only a very powerful pharaoh was able to afford a mask like this Did you know that Egyptians even mummified their pets?
